Silicon Residence

A home away from home. The Institute has a residence facility separately for Boys & Girls inside the campus. At present the capacity is 360 seats. There is a future plan to increase the seats and make the Institute fully residential by the year 2008. Silicon Residence Committee manages silicon Residence. It has been constituted to take care of various matters related to the residence. A group of faculty members are members of the Residence Committee. A fully residential Silicon will enhance the all round development and involvement of the students.

Canteen

Canteen facility is available for the boarders, day-scholars as well as the employees of Silicon. The Canteen is managed by the Institute and coordinate by the Student Committee. The committee fixes the canteen charges, which is primarily on cost-to-cost basis.

Transport

(Silicon Rider): To make it convenient for the local students our fleet of busses ply all major streets of Bhubaneswar. Six other vehicles for the employees of Silicon are also available. Students and staff members may hire a vehicle for their personal use such as picnic, wedding or visiting places at a reasonable price.

Medical Facilities

Medical facilities are provided for the “residents” of Silicon. Doctors (a lady & Gent) visit the campus twice a week as a part of the regular check-up. Students pay a nominal amount of the consulting fee (Rs.10/- only) and all other costs are borne by the Institute.

Guest House

Silicon Guest House inside the campus has thirty-four guest rooms out of which eight are air-conditioned. Visitors, Guests, Parents can avail the facility.

Health Club & Gym

The facility center at Silicon has health club, gym, mediation hall, audio-visual room, reading room, music club room and indoors games. Members of Silicon as well as guests can take the advantage of all these facilities.

Computer Centre

The computer center is equipped with over 250 WIPRO Pentium PCs, five HP Pentium Servers etc. Leased line Internet facility is available twenty-four hours in the lab and hostel. Our software library is equipped with Linux, Windows 2000, Oracle 9i, Borland C++, Visual Studio .NET, Windows XP, Windows 98, MS-Office 2003 and Tally etc.

Library

The Library is advanced and well equipped. There are plans to develop it with the state of the art facilities. It subscribes to a number of national and international journals and magazines. Amenities like reprographic services and CD-ROM databases are available.

Center for Excellence

Silicon defines the concept in a different way. To arrive at excellence, Silicon feels is a difficult but possible job if each student strives to acquire the right amount of core subject competence with the right command on soft skills. Students are made to acquire both the hard as well as soft skills and make an ideal combination of the two. Silicon provides regular training to students through its various programmes where they learn public speaking, involvement, self-expression, goal setting, team work, community living and sportsmanship.

Silicon Research Centre

A Collaborative Research Centre (Center for Advance Research & Development) has been established to provide high quality research and consultancy programme in Electrical and Electronics Sciences and Computer and Information Sciences. In the year 2003-2004, 15 faculties from different engineering colleges, both private and public sector are continuing their research in the above-mentioned areas. In addition, the center is collaborating with NIT, Rourkela. Silicon Institute facilitates studies and research for Ph.D. M.Tech. and B.E. projects.

Industry Interface Cell

The Industry Interface cell at Silicon headed by an able team and the extension directors indulges in Industry and market research for identifying the corporate trends and needs. The students are accordingly made aware, trained up and placed in the most prestigious corporate houses. The IIC at silicon Liaises with the industries with the purpose of a cent percent placement. It also hires consultancy from expert sources outside. Professional groups as well as in-house resource groups design and demonstrate special pre-placement exercises for the students.
