Over the last decade, more and more corporations are adapting to data-driven approach to have targeted services, reduced risks and improved performance. They are implementing specialized data analytic programs to collect, store, manage and analyze large data sets, called Big Data. Learning from Big Data has now become a challenging problem. Big Data sets are characterized by massive sample size and high dimensionality. The basic methodology which was used in classical statistical methods is not applicable for analyzing such data. Modeling the intrinsic heterogeneity of Big Data requires better machine learning tools. These algorithms need to be distributed and made communication-efficient.

The main focus of this workshop is to discuss various Machine learning techniques used for Big Data analysis and implementations of some of them using Hadoop and MATLAB in hands-on sessions.

This workshop is hosted by Silicon Institute of Technology (SIT), Bhubaneswar in collaboration with OITS, CSI-Silicon Student Chapter, Bhubaneswar and ISTE-Silicon Student Chapter, Bhubaneswa.

After this workshop the participants will
i. have grounding on various Machine Learning techniques along with their theoretical foundation, algorithms, and practical examples to do research and applications in Machine Learning.
ii. learn to use Hadoop and MATLAB in the hands on sessions.
iii. understand broad opportunities for automation with Machine Learning and apply it in practice.
iv. formulate problems as Machine Learning tasks.
v. understand scaling issues (amount of data, dimensionality, computation).
vi. understand current Machine Learning trends for pursing research and use it in applications.

About OITS

OITS is a non-profit society formed in 1998 by a group of technocrats at India and abroad to promote information technology in the state of Odisha. OITS organizes different workshops, seminars, and conferences in collaboration with different technical Institutions. It organizes International conference on Information Technology (ICIT) annually.
