The department of Computer Science & Engineering offers both B.Tech (CSE) and M.Tech (CSE) Programmes. Silicon Institute of Technology being an affiliated college of the Biju Pattnaik University of Technology, Orissa, the programmes offered are as per the BPUT syllabus.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

B.Tech (Computer Science & Engineering)
The B.Tech (CSE) programme was inducted in 2001 with an intake capacity of 60 students. Currently the intake capacity is 120 students. Admission to B.Tech (CSE) programme is strictly through the OJEE/AIEEE qualified candidates, and handled centrally by the OJEE counseling process. Since 2001, the B.Tech (CSE) programme at Silicon Institute of Technology has been a favourite choice among the OJEE/AIEEE qualified candidates. Special emphasis is given on the B.Tech final year project work. Students are encouraged to do a project in some research area of their interest. B.Tech students do their project in groups not exceeding 4 (four) students per group. The students are allowed to form their own groups depending on their interest area. Inter-branch groups are also permitted to enable students do inter-disciplinary projects with innovative ideas. Each group is assigned a project guide who has done or is currently doing research in that area. The group formation, project selection and guide assignment is completed during the 6th semester so that they can start working on their project right from the beginning of the 7th semester. Typically, each project starts with acquisition of background knowledge, detailed study of 4-5 recent research papers from reputed conference or journals, selection of one research paper as the final year project, implementing the approach proposed by authors of the paper using appropriate platform (including MATLAB), proposing some improvement in the approach, implementing the same and evaluation of the results. Apart from a final presentation, two interim presentations are conducted during each semester of the final year. Professors of repute from other institutes are invited as external examiners. Passed out students of the CSE department have been very well placed in the industry all over India and abroad. Many of the students have gone for higher studies in reputed NITs and IITs. Several students have also gone abroad to do MS and PhD in reputed universities in USA, UK, Singapore etc.

M.Tech (Computer Science & Engineering)
M.Tech (Computer Science & Engineering) The M.Tech (CSE) programme was started in 2009 and has an intake capacity of 18 students. Admission to M.Tech (CSE) is also done through OJEE from the PGAT qualified candidates. The PGAT is conducted by the BPUT, Odisha along with the OJEE entrance examination. Classes for M.Tech (CSE) students are conducted during the late afternoon hours to facilitate in-service students to obtain permission/leave from their employer organization and be able attend classes regularly. Apart from the BPUT curriculum, the department takes much interest in motivating M.Tech (CSE) students into research and academics. Along with the regular teaching/learning process, strong emphasis is given on the M.Tech project thesis work. Students are encouraged to take up a research project in their interest area. Each M.Tech student is assigned with a Project Guide working in that research area at the beginning of the 1st Semester itself. Typically, each M.Tech project starts with background studies followed by a literature survey which is to be completed during the 1st semester. In general, the 1st semester project work concludes with the problem identification, motivation and direction of research work to be done in the next three semesters. From 2nd semester onwards, the students continue research work on the identified problem in their respective domains. Students are highly encouraged to try hard to get at least two conference or journal publications by the time they complete the programme. Free training on using LaTeX for technical writing is given towards end of the 1st semester. Some M.Tech students are offered a paid Teaching-Assistantship in the department every year depending on their academic career, merit, academic and research aptitude. In addition to assisting their guide in his/her research activities, they are assigned other small tasks like conducing laboratory classes or tutorial/doubt-clearing classes for B.Tech students not exceeding 4 hours per day. Research assistantship is offered only through a strict selection process with interview by a committee comprising of Senior Professors.
