The Department of Information Technology (IT) at the Silicon Institute of Technology was established in the year 2001. The Department is concerned with the theory, design, development and application of computer systems and information processing techniques. Prof. Satyananda Champati Rai currently heads the department. The department of Information Technology provides a four-year (eight Semesters) engineering course leading to a bachelors in Information technology BPUT University, Orissa, India) and approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE, New Delhi, India). The course is highly Lab oriented and contains courses like Network Programming, Computer Graphics, Multimedia and Animation Technology, Microprocessors and Interfaces, Web Technologies & Development, Software Engineering, Security of Information Systems, Wireless Communications, Data Warehousing and Data Mining. The Department also runs specializations on Soft Computing, Web Engineering, Network Security and Expert Systems through electives. The department offers various summer courses in the upcoming technology. The department of IT undertakes projects and consultancies in industries to make the students more comfortable with future professional needs.

Note: As per AICTE approval vide F.No. Eastern/1-3333476893/2017/EOA/Corrigendum-1, Dated 18-Apr-2017, the 60 seats under Information Technology stream have been merged with Computer Science and Engineering. Consequently, the number of seats in Computer Science and Engineering has increased to 180, and there shall be no further admission in Information Technology branch from July 2017.
