1. Which branch of engineering will be better for a student to opt for?

There is nothing called a good branch or a bad branch. A good student in a so-called bad branch is much more employable than a bad student in a so-called good branch. If you have the love towards a subject, then go for it. Excellence is the key, let it be any branch. However, employment opportunity is same for all the branches.

2. What are the job opportunities for Core branches?

Core branches are evergreen branches. We will need them till the time civilization exits. We need to be employable with the required domain knowledge. Job prospects are always there, but the key is our employability. There are opportunities for students of core branches both in IT as well as core sectors.

3. What will be the placement scenario after 4 years?

The present placement scenario of the institute speaks more about its future which is quite encouraging. Our placement cell analyses the placement records of each year and works on the growth characteristics of the same. However, Silicon believes that it’s better to provide fishing skills than to provide a fish. There are all possibilities to land on a good job for a student having a good CGPA with no backlogs up to the last semester. Needless to say, one should have attended the pre-placement training classes offered by the institute with utmost sincerity.

6. As the Institute is situated far away from the town, how do the

students manage their life there?
As the institute is slightly away from the town, it provides a serene environment for study. So far as students’ daily needs are concerned, a co-operative store is located inside the campus which takes care of their needs. Besides, a daily outing facility from campus to town is also available so that students can get provisions of their choice from the market. Since healthcare is a matter of utmost importance, a doctor visits the campus twice a week. However, for medical emergencies the institute plies a dedicated ambulance.

7. Apart from academics, what are the other exposures provided to the students?

Seminars, workshops & conferences are being conducted to keep the students aware of the current technologies and developments in the field of research. Students can enroll for GATE classes and PPT classes which add value to their career ambitions. Sports & cultural activities also play an important role for a vibrant campus life. Besides the core academics, we address the holistic growth of the students. We offer extra GATE coaching classes in campus and facilitate industrial visits and summer internship programs. Moreover, we offer pre-placement training consecutively for three semesters and also organize seminars, workshops, talks and events on skill development and entrepreneurship development. We regularly roll out programs on communication skills, positive thinking and personality development so that the students can get themselves prepared for competitions in professional life.

8. What are the medical facilities provided to the students & staffs in case of any emergency?

A first-aid treatment is available on campus. In case of any emergency, an ambulance is readily available on campus 24X7.

9. What kind of food is served in the canteen?

The canteen committee comprising students decide the menu for the residents. Homely & nutritious food like chicken, fish, egg, paneer, mushroom, vegetables, salad etc. are served in the canteen. Delicious & hygienic food makes the canteen the right place for residents. The canteen is managed by the institute with the help of a Faculty in-Charge and a Students’ Body. The students prepare the menu once in every fortnight and proper hygiene is ensured during the preparation of food. Moreover, the aspect of food value is taken care of keeping in view the health of students and employees.

Yes, we implement TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver) Scheme as per the BPUT rule. Apart from this, we have numerous scholarship schemes for meritorious students to be benefited financially while pursuing their studies.

12. Is the campus a safer place for lady students?

Yes, the campus is absolutely safe for lady students, as they are under the close invigilation of lady security guards 24X7. Besides, the Residence Committee and Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) are always alert to ensure safety of women on campus.

13. Is there any arrangement of counselor for students who actually need it?

Yes, a Faculty Advisor (FA) is assigned to each student at the beginning of each semester. The FA takes care of the student & looks after his/ her academic well being. We also have a counseling center where a student can come down & discuss his/her difficulties. All the staff members in our Institute are very cordial & supportive.

14. Is SIT, Sambalpur functioning like an extension of SIT, Bhubaneswar or it is an independent body?

SIT, Bhubaneswar is a sister-institution of SIT, Sambalpur. Since SIT, Bhubaneswar is already a premier institute in its domain it acts as a mentor & guide to SIT, Sambalpur. But as far as academics and administration are concerned, the institute is fully independent in all terms.

15. What are the co-curricular activities carried out in SIT, Sambalpur for the refreshment of students?

We believe in all-round development of the students which requires a healthy body & mind. Hence Sports, Yoga, Cultural events and campus activities are conducted from time to time to keep the students active and lively. We have a Campus Co-ordination Committee which is engaged with conducting meta-academic events in the campus such as group debates, street plays, movie screening, heritage tours etc.

16. What are the facilities provided in library?

The institute possesses a library having vibrant environment for students and offers the facilities like studying for hours in dedicated reading cubicles and issuing textbooks & reference books for all subjects at the beginning of each semester. It is an open house filled with magazines and journals. Moreover, the Book Bank in the library rents out books to students for the whole semester.

17. Is there any provision of smart classes or online classes?

Our college is already equipped with smart classrooms. A remote centre is already active for classes through video conferencing. Similarly, we conduct online quiz tests for semester courses and online mock tests for placement drives using our in-house infrastructure.

18. Do we have to put on uniform?

Some institutes follow uniformity in dress code whereas some do not. However Silicon follows a certain dress code whereby students need to wear formals on workdays except Saturdays.

19. Do you organize Parents Meet?

Yes, the parents meet is organized once in a year during the annual function of the institute. However, parents and guardians are welcome to the institute campus at any time of the year.

Yes, SIT, Sambalpur is a fully ragging-free campus. The anti-ragging committee and squad are always on their toes for the safety of the students throughout the year.
