How many engineering colleges are there in Odisha?
There are over 100 engineering colleges in Odisha affiliated to BPUT. How do I know which college is good?
It is very important to know about the college where you have to study for 4 years and your future depends on that. You should visit the website of the college, consult your seniors studying in that college, talk to the faculty members of that college, and talk to some of the parents as well. We strongly suggest that you should visit the campus yourself if possible. By personally visiting the campus, you will know the ground reality about the institute including its infrastructure, faculty members, placement records, curricular activities and other facilities. Is your college approved by AICTE?
Yes! Silicon is approved by AICTE and affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) Odisha. Is your college NAAC accredited?
Yes, Silicon is accredited as “A” grade institute by NAAC. What is an autonomous institute?
Autonomous institutes are institutes designated by UGC which has been granted academic autonomy in terms of designing syllabus, conducting examinations, and making other operational decisions. Is your institute autonomous?
Yes, from 2018-19 Academic Session
What are the different branches available and which branch has more demand?
We have 07 (seven) branches of Engineering in our two campuses. The branches are: Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, and Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering. There is a demand currently for all core branches of engineering like Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering as well as circuit branches like Computer Science, Electronics, and Instrumentation. Which branch is good?
There is nothing called a good branch or bad branch. A good student in any branch is much more employable than a bad student in a so-called good branch. If you have the passion for engineering, study every subject with due interest, and ready to work hard, you can become a successful engineer in any branch. However, if you neglect your studies, you are more likely to struggle to get a job even if you have a degree in a branch you think is good. Excellence is the key and there is no shortcut to success. What is important: choosing a branch OR choosing a college?
Choosing the right college is much more important that choosing a branch. If you choose any branch in a reputed college that is disciplined and has emphasis on academics, then you will definitely gain more knowledge and get better employment opportunities. At what JEE (Main) rank I can expect to get admission in Silicon?
As per the last year’s statistics, if you have secured a JEE (Main) rank within around top 20-25% then you have a fair chance of getting admission into Silicon. Is it necessary to appear OJEE Exam for taking an admission in to engineering colleges in Odisha?
No. If you are seeking admission to B.Tech in Engineering in any AICTE approved engineering college in Odisha (except IITs & deemed Universities) then you need to appear JEE (Main) examination. Can a student from outside Odisha take admission to a college in Odisha?
Of course yes, but the student has to participate in OJEE counseling process on the basis of JEE (Main) rank for taking into admission in engineering colleges of Odisha. Can I get a seat in Silicon with JEE (Main) rank of 2,00,000 or above in General Category?
If you are a domicile of the state of Odisha, then most probably YES. However, if you are from outside Odisha, then your JEE (Main) rank should be preferably within 2,00,000. Otherwise, you have to wait for spot admission against vacant seats if any. If I do not get a seat in Silicon through JEE (Main) ranking, then is there any other way?
Yes. Vacant seats (if any) remaining after counseling are filled up through spot admission. What is NRI/Management/Vacant seat and how to get it?
There are 5% of seats in every private college for NRIs (Non Resident Indians). To get a NRI seat you must have a rank in JEE (Main). Allocation of NRI seats are done through the OJEE central counseling. The fees are normally 4 times that of the college fees as per the government norms and guidelines. Vacant NRI seats can be allocated through spot admission for which you have to approach to the college administration. Are there any seats reserved for female candidates?
30% seats in each category of every branch of engineering are reserved for female candidates. How can I take admission in MCA in Silicon?
Admission into MCA is through the OJEE Examination conducted by Odisha JEE. OJEE also accepts NIMCET which is NIT MCA Common Entrance test (a National Level Test conducted by NITs for admission in to their MCA programs). Please refer to https://www.odishajee.com/ for further details. How can I take admission in M.Tech in Silicon?
Admission into M.Tech is either by GATE score or through PGAT examination conducted by BPUT. You have to attend the same OJEE counseling process with your GATE or PGAT score. Please refer to https://www.odishajee.com/ for further details. I want to do M.Tech while working in another organization. Is it possible?
If you’re concerned about the timing, then it is possible because we keep M.Tech classes in the afternoon hours.
